Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean your sponsored child is finishing school. It means it’s time for them to graduate from the sponsorship program!
Their whole community will come together for a special graduation ceremony, where they’ll reflect on all that’s been achieved in the nine years since the project first began. It’s a time to celebrate the positive changes that have happened in your sponsored child’s life and in the wider community…thanks to your generous sponsorship.
They can now take ownership of the project activities, continuing and building on the good work which your support has made possible. That’s why graduation is a cause for celebration!
Your sponsored child will continue to participate in their community’s development, but the community will not be part of the Baptist World Aid Child Sponsorship program anymore.
Is Baptist World Aid Australia discontinuing their Child Sponsorship program?
Definitely not! We know (from experience) that community development projects that include children from the outset are incredibly effective! That’s why we’re committed to ensuring that our Child Sponsorship program not only continues, but also expands into new locations where there is great need.

What happens to my Child Sponsorship when my sponsored child graduates?
When your sponsored child graduates from the project, our general practice is to connect you with another child who lives in an area where there is great need. This is automatically processed for you – meaning your good work to end poverty and bless children can continue… hassle free! It also helps us reduce administration costs so that more funds can go directly to our projects overseas.

Great question! Baptist World Aid Australia has Child Sponsorship projects in several countries, so the time of your sponsored child’s (or sponsored children’s) graduation will vary. However, we can tell you that all graduations are due to take place between 2019-2021.
A few months before your sponsored child graduates, we’ll send you a notification along with an invitation to write a farewell letter (see next FAQ below). We’ll also send your sponsored child’s Graduation Report to you by mail at the time of their graduation – you’ll get to read about all the changes that have happened in their life as well as in their family and community, thanks to you!
Yes, you can! Before your sponsored child graduates, you’ll receive an invitation in the mail to write a farewell card. Take this opportunity to congratulate them on graduating from the program, thank them for their friendship and give them encouragement for the future. Your farewell letter will be presented to your sponsored child at their graduation ceremony.

Can I still support and write to my sponsored child after they’ve graduated?
Unfortunately, we’re not able to facilitate this. While our Christian partners in the field will certainly keep in touch with project communities, their field staff will have moved away from the project area to begin work in a new community. That’s why we encourage you to write a farewell letter to your sponsored child before they graduate.
Your sponsored child and their family have been equipped with the knowledge and skills to increase their income, build confidence and dignity, and take control of their own futures. And as communities take over the management of their projects, your support is best suited in new locations where the need for sponsorship continues.
Your Continued Sponsorship Will Mean the Chance for Even More Children to Achieve Their Dreams!
Our new sponsorship projects are based on an improved approach to our child and youth community development work.
Building on what we have learned over the years, your new Child Sponsorship program includes both children and youth, recognising that different life stages have differing needs. So, instead of classifying anyone under 18-years as a child, it acknowledges that a child in pre-school will have very different needs to a child of 16, and ensures that all project work is designed to support those differing needs.
Just like our previous sponsorship projects, our new ones run on a 9-year cycle consisting of 3 planned phases.
