Malaria used to be a huge problem for Obed’s community in the Makira region of the Solomon Islands. Mosquitos were breeding rapidly in garbage piles and polluted waterways, so sickness plagued the people. Then, as a community leader, Obed worked with our local Partner to fight the problem at its source. When the community learned more about healthy living, they dealt with the pollution and garbage so the mosquitos had no breeding ground. As a result, malaria infections dropped dramatically, as did other illnesses.
These days, the whole community are committed to caring for their environment—taking advantage of training and support offered by our local Partner.
