This Swaptober, host a clothes swap with your family and friends as we fight overconsumption together!
It’s no secret that consumers are buying and disposing of more clothes than ever before. In Australia, 200,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill each year (that’s the weight of four Sydney Harbour Bridges), while up to 10 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from fashion production.
There’s a human cost too. Over 60 million people work in the global fashion industry, many of whom face abuse, exploitation, modern slavery, and low wages that aren’t enough to live on.
So, Baptist World Aid is turning the month of October into ‘Swaptober’ and calling on Aussies to host a Clothes Swap, encouraging family and friends to swap their preloved items instead of buying new. It doesn’t have to be new to be new to you!
