As we get ready for our own Christmas, reminded of the generosity of God to us, let’s join Jesus in caring for those who need it most and give generously.

Sani and Deepson* are vegetable farmers in Kapilvastu, Nepal. They tended their farm carefully, but it wasn’t enough.

Poor quality seeds, low tech methods and few agricultural tools meant that their farm yielded very little income. Too little to feed themselves and their three children.

MY GIFT THIS CHRISTMAS

Sani and Deepson had to find additional work to keep up with the cost of raising their family. So Deepson took a job packing plastic goods in Mumbai, and Sani earned a wage in the village, while also looking after the farm and children. It was difficult, but they did what was needed to save their children from hunger.

Then COVID struck, and both parents lost their jobs.

‘We had a difficult life’ said Sani. ‘It was difficult to afford food, clothes and education expenses for the children. In everything I faced financial problems.’

Just like Sani and Deepson’s family, COVID has plunged many into poverty. Today, 828 million people across the world are hungry and urgently need your support.

You can help change the story for families living in poverty.

Sani and Deepson became part of a program facilitated by our local Christian Partner, and funded by generous supporters like you. They learned innovative farming techniques, marketing skills and were equipped with better seeds and equipment to make the most of their land.

With this support, Sani and Deepson thrived! In their first season, they produced enough vegetables to feed their family and sell at markets. This meant that they could buy warm clothes for the children, pay school fees, and buy the food they don’t grow on their own farm.

Sani was filled with new confidence. She expanded the farm and discovered new and more profitable markets. This saw them go beyond expectations in their second season, and they tripled their produce.

With the farm now in a strong position, Deepson no longer needs to work a country away, and Sani no longer wonders if she will have enough to feed her children. Praise God!

This Christmas, we are asking families like yours to give to families like Sani’s. Will you give a gift that brings hope and light to a world that urgently needs it?
