How We Work
We work with communities to create lasting change, giving local people the training, support and access to resources they need to tackle the root causes of poverty.

Our Development Model
We’re locally led.
Through our Partners’ work, community members are invited and trained to take collective action. They identify the root causes of poverty, and they draw on their strengths to make and carry out plans to overcome them.
We address inequality.
Our Partners intentionally work with those who experience or face marginalisation, such as women, children, or people living with disabilities. Together we promote equality, human rights, and help communities remove the barriers that stop all people from being included in daily life.
We’re accountable and transparent.
We adhere to the Australian Council for International Development Code of Conduct (ACFID), a self-regulatory industry code of good practice, and we’re accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). This means we meet high standards of governance, accountability, and effectiveness.
We follow a rights-based model.
Our Partners train and support people to be leaders in their communities. By encouraging people to know their rights, express their agency and work collaboratively to deliver change, we help local communities build their capacity, so they can break the cycle of poverty.
We aim for lasting change.
Our Partners help create change that lasts for generations by supporting communities as they identify problems and put solutions in place. They have an exit strategy the moment a program begins, and ways to monitor how effectively the program helps communities become self-sustainable.
We help steward God’s creation.
Our Partners help communities care for the environment, which in turn improves their livelihoods and overall quality of life. Our Partners also help communities prepare for events like flooding, so they have the best chance of survival and full recovery.
Stories of Transformation

Who We Work With
We partner with local Christian organisations who share our biblical understanding of the better world God intends for all.
Our highly trusted Partners have longstanding relationships with communities, and are best placed to help them identify their unique challenges. They expand our understanding of the contexts we work in as we implement best practice development programs, together.
We provide our Partners with financial support through the generosity of our Australian supporters, prayer, guidance, accountability and training—helping them to grow in effectiveness as agents of change.
Baptist World Aid works with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP). Each year, the ANCP supports more than 60 Australian NGOs and over 2,000 local Partners to deliver community development projects around the world, including Baptist World Aid.
