On 24 May 2024, communities in the Enga Province of Papua New Guinea awoke to a nightmare. At 3am a deadly landslide wiped out human and animal lives, houses and food gardens. While rescuers searched for buried survivors, thousands of people immediately became displaced with their homes destroyed. These families needed to be housed in camps safely away from the disaster.

We’re so thankful for our community of supporters who stepped forward with help. With funds raised by our supporters, our local Christian Partner was able to deliver relief to these displaced families in the form of:

  • Food including rice, noodles, tinned fish, potatoes and sweet potatoes
  • Bedding such as mattresses and blankets
  • Bundles of second-hand clothing
  • Survival equipment such as solar torches, tarpaulins, spades, and bush knives.
Distributions made by our Partner thanks to your support.

Six months on, around 150 households are still displaced, affecting 3,890 people.

With the generosity of supporters like you, our local Christian Partner will continue to work with local community leaders where possible to distribute much needed supplies.

State of Emergency

Security in the area continues to be a concern, with response activities currently on hold as violence has broken out in a neighbouring area. A state of emergency has been declared.

Our local Christian partner will conduct further distributions of food and other items when the state of emergency is lifted. Plans have already been made to provide 200 families with emergency food and solar lighting as soon as it is safe to do so.

All this good work has been made possible through the faithfulness of supporters like you.

Please join us in praying for:

• The safety of our Partner’s staff, community leaders, and volunteers who are working in difficult conditions to bring relief to families.
• For families who are now without homes—that they would trust God to provide for their needs, and find comfort and support as they rebuild as a community.
