Give before 30 June to have greater impact!

Remember, when you make a tax-deductible donation today, your gift will be combined with funding from the Australian Government to help those who need it most. But you must donate by 30 June 2023. When you give to Matching Grant, you’re helping our Christian partners around the world as they support people emerging from poverty. Not only will you be assisting people with their immediate needs—food, shelter and warmth—but you’ll also help address the underlying causes of poverty, like access to education, attaining citizenship, and secure employment.

INCREASE MY IMPACT

Can you imagine being stateless in your own country of birth?

Fadia and her family are Dom, a marginalised people group from Lebanon and Syria.  Like most Dom, they live in inadequate housing in a camp on the outskirts of Beirut. They are excluded from the security afforded to Lebanese citizens because they lack the paperwork to prove their rights. Fadia and her husband tried hard to find employment, but until they met our Christian Partner, they had no way to access a stable income and provide for their family.

‘My husband managed to get a job at a sweets place’ said Fadia. ‘But was fired the next day for the same reason he was fired from a cement factory: the lack of papers to prove his identity.’

One in three Dom people survive on less than a dollar a day. As if this was not bad enough, Fadia’s young children were bullied so badly at school because of their ethnicity that she had no choice but to remove them.  ‘Their peers bullied and beat them’ said Fadia.  ‘Once I went to speak with the director about them and she pushed me out of her office saying she was too busy for us’. It was as though no one saw, and no one cared. But we know that Jesus always saw and always cared for Fadia.

Luke 8 tells the story of Jesus meeting a woman who had been unwell for 12 years. Because she was regarded as unclean, she was rejected by her neighbours and left to live an invisible life on the margins. But Jesus saw her, healed her and called her daughter. It changed her life.  ‘When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him’ (Luke 8:47).

Fadia, and many around the world like her, have the daily experience of being ignored, pushed aside and left to struggle alone. Will you give to show them you see and care?

I SEE & CARE

Your gift today means that marginalised people like Fadia can get the support they need to thrive.

When Fadia became part of our local Christian Partner’s program, she was able to make positive changes for herself and her family. She took up a job in their sewing collective, enrolled her children in their school, and she and her husband are now working with our Partner to resolve the difficult problem of proving their citizenship.

Because of generous supporters like you, Fadia and her family are becoming stronger every day.  Will you give so that our local Christian Partners can help more marginalised people around the world?

‘I am treated right; the people here are kind and respectful. They even support my children in their education,’ said Fadia.
