Fundraising Story

Some of the world’s poorest communities live in the most disaster-prone areas. Poverty makes these families more vulnerable to disasters because they can’t protect themselves. And, after a disaster, they lack the resources to respond and rebuild effectively. It’s a vicious cycle.

When disaster strikes, families are left without shelter, without food and without healthcare. Their survival depends on these basic needs being met. So when disaster strikes, we take immediate action. But what happens after the first response is over? And what can families do when the next disaster hits?

Because of its impact on the vulnerable, our response to disaster is an important part of our response to poverty itself. The destruction caused by disaster can halt development in communities for years at a time.

Even the most conservative estimates suggest that $1 invested into disaster risk reduction activities saves up to $15 in response and recovery costs in the aftermath of a disaster

Our Disaster Action Fund allows us to respond with immediacy when a disaster strikes and helps to rebuild communities after the initial emergency response. But it also prepares at-risk communities to survive future disasters.

Investing in disaster preparedness is part of our response to God’s call to steward wisely. Monthly donations to our Disaster Action Fund save lives before, during and after disasters.
