CAMINO DAY TWENTY SIX
Astorga to Rabanal del Camino 21.6 km
Adjusted actual 22.6 km
Today was terrific. We headed uphill most of the day toward the mountains as tomorrow we reach the highest point on the Camino. We have been carrying a small rock (representing a burden/hardship/focus) from home all these past days and tomorrow we lay it at the foot of the Crux (Cross) at that high point. It is a significant pilgrim moment and many have been talking about this over the past few days.
Today we spent with S & R and talked of life, work, purpose, disappointments, relationships and just about everything else. It was a pretty special day to walk and our time flew by. We even had a beer together at the Cowboys Bar…pretty funny!
We walked a route for about 1km where there were thousands of crosses in the fence alongside. People having moments of marking this place. Quite special.
Tonight we are going to a gregorian worship service in this little town and we are looking forward to that. I will post some video footage afterward. There is thunder and lightning on the horizon so we are in for some rain.
Highlights: A shorter walk after a great sleep, great company and inspiring conversation, uphill mostly (which strangely enough is easier than downhill), I changed my small backpack and had much less pain in legs (also thanks to many of you who have been praying), a lovely Albergue for the night and shelter from the weather.
Reflections: We walked and talked all day almost unaware of the steps we had to take. “The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination. ” Don Williams, Jr
We are excited about tomorrow…walking to the highest part of the trail and to the cross! In Life, the idea of waiting for something makes it more exciting.
We are thankful for the prayers of so many back home and they are giving us strength.
Here is a prayer for each of you:
Dare to Be
When a new day begins, dare to smile gratefully.
When there is darkness, dare to be the first to shine a light.
When there is injustice, dare to be the first to condemn it.
When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.
When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back.
When there seems to be no hope, dare to find some.
When you’re feeling tired, dare to keep going.
When times are tough, dare to be tougher.
When love hurts you, dare to love again.
When someone is hurting, dare to help them heal.
When another is lost, dare to help them find the way.
When a friend falls, dare to be the first to extend a hand.
When you cross paths with another, dare to make them smile.
When you feel great, dare to help someone else feel great too.
When the day has ended, dare to feel as you’ve done your best.
Dare to be the best you can –
At all times, Dare to be!
