To begin this reflective prayer, try to still your movement and quiet the thoughts in your mind. Sit in a comfortable position, relax your muscles, take some deep breaths and try to clear away any distracting thoughts… and be aware of the presence of God.
Spend a few moments thanking God for one or two of the blessings you experienced today. They could be big things like your good health, your relationships, your work or study. Or they could be simple things, like a restful sleep, an easy trip, an encouraging conversation or a shared laugh.
Meditate on the verse; listen to prompting from God. Spend a few moments reading and re-reading this verse.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1.
Think back over your day and ask God to show you the greatest challenge you faced. What was your response to that challenge? Did you respond in your own strength, or did you rely on God’s help? As you think about the challenging situation, reflect on how you felt while it was taking place. How do you feel now? Share this with God.
Listen for God’s prompting. If you feel led, give God thanks, ask for forgiveness, or ask for healing.
Ask God to show how He might guide you tomorrow in light of this challenge. Ask Him to open your heart to His Spirit’s guiding. Ask God for His help in this challenge from this moment forward.
Pray a prayer of commitment to God – to trusting in Him, to following His Spirit’s guidance and to relying on the strength Christ gives.
