As a new staff member, I’d like to take this opportunity to share one of my very first experiences at Baptist World Aid Australia.
We were spending some time praying in small groups during our weekly staff meeting, when one of my new colleagues, Nina, shared a revelation she had recently received on the power of prayer.
We live in a broken world. The Bible tells us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5: 17), but in the face of such brokenness it can sometimes be hard to comprehend properly the importance of such a command. Blinkered by our humanity, prayer as a response has the potential to seem insignificant; particularly considering the scope of global crises like the one in the Middle East.
That morning in our staff meeting, Nina urged us to have faith in the power of our prayers.
“Remember that each time we pray into a situation, God releases His Spirit to fight on our behalf,” Nina said.
In short, each time we pray: God moves.
1 John 5: 14 tells us that if we ask God anything according to His Will, He hears us. How important then are your prayers to the mission of Baptist World Aid? The answer: nothing short of imperative.
This was one of my very first experiences at Baptist World Aid. Not only did it offer me insight into the heart of this place, but it also encouraged my spirit greatly.
I feel blessed to be working for an organisation that prioritises time in communion with God; that makes space in our working week for us to pray together for our most vulnerable neighbours. I hope that this story encourages you as much as the experience did me. Please continue to pray into our vision for a world where poverty has ended; emboldened by the certainty of the power of your prayer.
